Guidelines for Parent/Teen Stories short story submissions:

PLEASE NOTE in the subject line of YOUR EMAIL - which Parent/Teen Stories series you are submitting your story to.
ANY STORY not SUBMITTED BY THESE GUIDELINES will be RETURNED for Corrections Submission Criteria:
Min: 1500 wordsMax: 5,000 words (if you go over the 5000 words, drop Susan an email for approval)
Font: Times Roman
Pitch: 12
1" margins all the way around
All numbers 1-100 should be typed out
DO NOT DOUBLE SPACE
INDENT paragraphs with 5 spaces.
DO NOT space between paragraphs
Do NOT use bold print or underline
Give your story a Title
Author name used on story (if using pen name, also submit real name.)
YOU need to have Story edited for grammar, typos and content flow before submitting. Use spell check!
Make sure your Story is compelling enough that reader will turn your last page and read next story. Ask a friend or relative to read your final product and get feedback before submitting.
Content: Story needs to focus on the tough periods of subject you are writing about i.e. impact on family, friends, school and emotions.
Submit FINAL copy in a .doc format attachment to parentteenstories@yahoo.com with Story title, author name and email address at the top of first page.
Compensation: You will receive a FREE BOOK upon publication. You will not financially get rich for your submission but may be emotionally rewarded knowing your story may help at least one reader.
You will retain Rights to Your story except for its use in the book.
Your story may be edited for use in the book - unless extreme edit is made, you will not be notified of changes.
You will NOT receive any royalties on the Book or its contents.
You Will Receive a Contract if Your story is accepted for publication.
Some of your content may be used on the Website (will be covered in the contract)
If content it to be used in Media i.e. talk shows/movies/tv-internet series a separate contract will be issued.
STORIES ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR BOOK 2 & 3 (all subjects) THROUGH MARCH 2010.
How Do you Get Your Story Across to the Reader?
You, the Writer, are
The Teen or The Parent or The Sibling or The Relative or The Teacher or The Friend
The format is written in a Narrative or Third Party perspective. It is IMPORTANT that YOU STAY FOCUSED on the Subject you are writing about Content focus:
Story must be a real life experience. (Remember that YOUR story may be the one that a Reader will relate to.)
Story should take the reader through the following steps:
Brief synopsis before the ?incident? i.e. family life, school and social activities What lead you to the incident? How did your life change because of the incident? What struggles did you go through with family, friends, school? What helped you get through the troublesome time or are you still in it? What are your plans for the future now?
Remember - YOUR story has to be compelling enough for the READER to want to turn the last page of your story and read the next story in the book.
